Connect....FOUR!

When I go on tour, I need a place to stay.  Many musicians book rooms in hotels.  Being an extrovert, I prefer staying with people.  Tim and I belong to a Christian hospitality network, Candle in the Window.  When I was planning my summer tour, I searched but could find no one in my network to stay with in that area. The quest began for a home, and a roadie to work for me.  I called the 3 largest churches in Washington, IN, and none of them were able to help me.  Finally, I decided to try Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, and chose a woman named Yvonne on the church staff list. I called her and immediately she thought of ideas to help me.  She’s a connector! 

Yvonne paired me up with a couple named Cynthia and Greg who live out in the country. Imagine what it’s like to come up to the door of someone you’ve never met, and present yourself as their houseguest for a week.  I’ll admit, it’s a little scary, but I’ve done it a lot in my life and never been bitten yet!  Cynthia and Greg warmly welcomed me and let me stay in their lovely guest room. They took me out to dinner, and fed me yummy food.  They love Jesus and shared His love with me.  I got to perform a house concert in their home on my last night. Super fun to play for their family and friends!

Through her network of contacts, Yvonne also found me a roadie!  I hired Brecklyn, age 11, after interviewing her on the phone.  She has a lot of experience being in front of people with her pageant experience, and loves working with children. Breck started with me “cold turkey” at our first gig, the library show in Washington, IN.  She quickly learned the actions to my songs and was an animated action helper.  Brecklyn was experienced in handling credit card sales and did an awesome job at my merch table while I posed with the kids for pictures. 

That week I packed 11 shows into 10 fun-filled days.  I am so grateful to God for the way He worked things out for this tour. I couldn’t have done it without Yvonne, Cynthia, Greg and Brecklyn.  Isn’t it great how God works things out and provides for all our needs?

Brecklyn & I squeezed in a little sight-seeing. The George Rogers Clark Memorial in Vincennes, IN is huge and beautiful. I sang "America the Beautiful" just to hear the acoustics in this huge rotunda!
